It's killing me too! How Leigh put it in the chapter summary:

"Because if it wasn’t Cersei, and it wasn’t Jaime, and it wasn’t Tyrion, then who the hell was it?"

Why is it so easy to forget that Joff is a complete psychopath and would totally order a hit on Bran just for fun, not to mention to please his papa?

I found this link on the Westeros boards - the Second City comedy troupe has a great video for those who've just finished reading A Storm of Swords. I think Leigh is going to need this.

That video was up on Tor earlier in the week and it is very funny.

On a different note, since there was a lot of talk about the others and the frozen zombies in yesterdays post/comments, does anybody think that there is any validity to the theory that the wights are corpses that the white walkers are warging?

Warging wights wouldn't explain the blue eyes, right?

I still want to know what they do with Craster's babies. Is there a way to create Others?

One final point - those that complain of spoiling in the main post should detail their claims here, so that we can all know and can discuss if there's doubt.

I think it’s because Robert is a non-issue at this point. With so much going on now, who remembers his offhand comment about "putting the kid out of his misery" or whatever the real quote was that Joff latched onto.
Leigh and others are wrapped up in the political intrigue of it all. Why would people stop to think it’s about a kid desperately wanting daddy's attention and approval? I sure forgot about Robert by the time the truth came out.

Warging Wights would'nt explain the wiggling hand, either.

But this is for RobM - there was a post today @54 that you responded to, regarding a link to WoT. Unfortunately, I missed it before it got balefired (along w/ @55). What was that about? just curious.

I had the immediate thought, on reading that scene, that maybe the WWs can't reproduce normally, and need the babies to make more of their kind. Unfortunately, there has been no more information on it really. Or maybe that's a good thing...

edit because I quoted the wrong part of RobM's post.

Good point. I guess we can say the same about Jon Arryn's murderer. We were easily led to believe the Lannisters were behind that, for they would have had enough motivation if they had learned what Jon Arryn found out about Baratheon children never being blonde. And ironically enough we were led to believe so by a letter from the one who was actually behind the murder.

Can't wait to see Leigh's reaction when she finds that out... IIRC we learn it in one of the Sansa chapters later on, but it's been a while since I did a full series reread...

It's gonna be a long wait, since it's the last chapter of ASoS (excluding the Epilogue)

WRT to Joffrey ordering Bran's murder, I've always thought he did without any special reason other than feeling insulted when Tyrion had slapped him for not giving apologies to the Starks. "Mercy" could just be how he justified his actions to the murderer.

Marty - the WOT post was a quote from a Jordan interview that Padan Fain is unique to this age, which could have implications for how the story ends (i.e., Fain isn't a force who sealed off the Dark One in past Ages and is an extreme wild card for this one).
