Need ideas for what to do with old Analogs

    Hi folks,

I've got several boxes of old Analog (and Astounding) magazines, with about a quarter of the ones from the '50s, most of the ones from the '60s, and almost all of the '70s forward. I'm moving to a smaller space and won't have room for them.

What might I do with them?

What I care most about: getting them into the hands of people who might read them.

What I don't care about: getting paid for them, throwing them away, giving them to the local library (which I see as just a long way of throwing them away), getting a tax deduction (I don't itemize).

    Thanks,
    Pat

Let's ask the oracle. Over the next week or so, keep an eye on this comment thread.

Pat, issues from the 1950s and '60s can be valuable, especially the larger, "bed-sheet" issues from the early 1960s. The '70s, not so much; those are common and don't bring more than a couple of bucks at most. Where are you located?

I'd offer to take them, but I've already got cartons of hardcover SF novels that need a good home.

Have you considered donating them to the Worldbuilders charity run by Patrick Rothfuss? He has an amazing collection of great SFF-related prizes, and people then donate money to a charity and are entered into raffles to win those prizes. Your batch of magazines is exactly the type of prize that would get people really excited about donating there. Just an idea!

Urk. Well, if you were within driving distance from Central Virginia, I might have made you an offer; shipping costs for a collection that big make it unprofitable for me, especially as the later issues are quite common. You might do well to think about Stefan's idea.

    Bad timing, Bud

    Hi Bud,
Well, that was really bad timing on my part. I just moved here from DC. I probably drove fairly close to where you live. Oh, well.

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the pointer to WorldBuilder. I hadn't known about it. I've sent offers to some libraries to see if they want them for their collections. If that doesn't work out, I'll consider this one.
