First of all who cares what's going on currently with HBO, you just said HBO could do it...nuff said... Can't wait... That's all I needed to hear..............(with a will there's a way...look to the light my friend.)

HBO does. They aren't likely to make two epic fantasies at the same time, because they are not a fantasy network. One fills the niche as much as they want to. Even though Game of Thrones gets a lot of great press, it's still drawing half the viewership that the Sopranos drew.
Hence the word "current" in my phrasing sir....I personally don't expect HBO to pick it up with or without Game of Thrones. Anyway just putting it out there as the other responder did....... Carnivale was different enough for their viewership and it didnt last....Tru Blood is lasting simply because of the Current hysteria of vamps/werewolves and sex (HBO did actually improve the story line over the original book series in my opinion though but not by much) , so maybe Showtime or perhaps another cable company.... A & E seems to like to take on epic projects such as these but it seems a limited budget for that network could do that idea in....guess I'll just have to get rich and buy up one of the networks..............We could always show Egwene, Moiraine, Elayne, and the Ae Sesdai in various sexual sitiautions every other show....actually in later books there is room for some very steamy parts..![]()
You know, I can't say as I need to have a live action version of the WoT series 'sexed up.' I would think animating the series would be a good way to start. It is not a series that is terribly mainstream and you need it to appeal to more than just the fan base. Rather like Jackson's decision to play up the Aragorn/Arwen story line. Definitely wasn't in the 'main' books but added a great deal to the films and drew in more movie goers as well.
If anthonypero's comment on the viewer share that HBO is getting for Games is accurate then I agree that HBO won't be in a hurry to do a new one; especially as they are going to be waiting on the final 2/3 books from Martin.
Showtime might get their 'own' but only if Games makes HBO money. A&E wouldn't be a good fit as they've descended into the mire of reality tv. AMC might work, but again it needs to be shown to be fiscally viable for them.

Sorry I meant to say AMC originally when I mentioned A&E.... Kidding about the "Sexed" up part to a degree...but there is lots of romance in WOT between many characters which you can can exploit to get a certain fan base interested in more that just the fantasy aspect to the story.... They did do animation with Tolkiens work in the 70's which I remember liking alot...It could be a good primer and cheaper way to obtain more of a fan base for pushing for a television or movie in the far off future.....
I would pass on an animated version. I would be significantly more comfortable with a TV series adaptation, or several miniseries than with movies. I think the changes made would be more digestible in that medium. The only problem is the likelihood of the story being finished is minimal, and that would suck.
Phillip... I think its safe to say that sex isn't a fad. People have liked it for a long time. I'm with ya on the Vampires, though.
A TV show would be doable... something campy and set in NZ like Hercules or Xena. The problem I see with doing a whack of movies is that WoT does not have the fan base nor the widespread recognition that LotR does. Let's face it JRR's stuff has been around for over 50 years, heck, we read the Hobbit in school. WoT has fans and it has been around for 20 years but we do not have near the following for folks to get the concept of WoT... I think all the average schmo off the street would say "oh look, another LotR knock off". Goodkind's series made it to TV, but let's face it, Goodkind blows goats. I think live action TV or animated series is very doable.

As for sex... well there are numerous topless scenes, bath house scenes, spankings...

And I think Space would be the channel to pick up the series. They have Merlin, but geeks flock to that channel and this show would be right up geek alley. FYI @AP if you want to do us SF Tor lovers some justice, drop watching all the crime procedural shows and start watching that channel especially during your time with the Neilson box.
